The Weighing Machine Men

The Weighng Machine Men tells the story of the company which once proudly advertised that 9/10ths of all the goods carried on Britain's railways were weighed on their machines. Established around 1770, they were, along with Salter and Avery, one of the major early players in the quest for accurate, durable and reliable weighing equipment. They had a global reputation. Pooley's weights were once given the official stamp of approval as the 'universal standard' in the business. From its inception until eventually taken over by W. & T. Avery in 1914, the Pooley company was headed by five generations all named Henry.
