He has been writing, editing and publishing books on the history of photography, local history, and history through photography since 1974, the most recent being Around Scotland's Shores (GW Publishing 2009), The Victorians and Edwardians at Work and The Victorians and Edwardians at Play (Shire 2009),and before them,the Encyclopedia of Nineteenth-Century Photography (Routledge 2007) and Great Photographic Journeys (Dewi Lewis Publishing, 2007).
